Forms OCR, ICR & OMR are the different methods of character recognition used in the data capture process. This is very specific to the requirements of the client as different methods of character recognition apply to different documents. Our staff will advise you on the best forms of data capture to suit your needs specifically.
Below is a quick explanation of the different forms of data capture engines used for different data capture scenarios:
OCR Scanning (Optical Character Recognition)
OCR scanning and conversion is the basic form of data recognition used to scan computer typed text from a similar font and feed the data into the system exactly as it is scanned. The text is read and will be searchable on the computer exactly as it is captured.
If the document is clean which means there are no marks or writing over the text then the OCR accuracy rate is 99.95% which on average is much more accurate and much faster than manual data entry.
ICR (Intelligent Character Recognition)

ICR is a step up from OCR in that it can identify text typed in very different fonts. A range of text fonts can be identified by ICR which OCR could normally get confused with due to the fact that letters in other fonts can sometimes appear very differently.
So if you have forms that include text in many different formats, then this is the one for you. ICR will capture and convert the scanned document into a text searchable electronic document.
OMR (Optical Markup Recognition)
OMR scanning is probably the most advanced form of data recognition. This recognises and converts human handwriting into computerised text. As long as the handwriting is eligible, this form of data capture will be able to identify written text and convert it into a computerised format along with our quality control staff checking the output along the way. This solution is very useful for processing such forms as application forms, questionnaires or other such forms filled out by the public.
This will often require data entry and thorough quality control from our experienced scanning staff to ensure all the data is accurate.
Data Capture Quality Control
Once forms are captured into our bureau, our staff will go through the information read by the system and check to ensure the correct data has been captured and converted and that there were no other errors on the page or any text accidentally cut off.
These checks on top of the initial OCR, ICR or OMR is one part of our extensive quality control which gives our customers an accurate return from their data. The documents are also organised into your preferred form of indexing so all files are neatly arranged for ease of location. With these different forms of data capture any word can be located in a PDF, MS Word, TIFF file or any other file you prefer.
